Delivering quality to the world

Shetland Catch is the largest pelagic factory of its kind in Europe. Remotely located in the wild, clean waters of the North Atlantic - we are where the fish are. This means that we can guarantee our customers worldwide the freshest frozen mackerel and herring on the market.

An early start to the Mackerel!

The end of August is usually a time when we finish our herring production, ship our frozen stock to customers and relax before the mackerel starts. However, this year, there was not such a leisurely pace as the first mackerel arrived before the end of August!

We have continued our production this week with a mixture of Danish and Swedish purse seiners, and even the Shetland trawler MV Charisma made an appearance. The main catching area has been northeast of Shetland and the average size has generally been above 400gms.

Sales to Eastern Europe have been good considering the early start. These markets form an important part of our averall sales strategy so we will attend the World Food Moscow Show between the 14-17 September to meet with our regular clients to discuss further orders and hopefully we will meet some new customers. We will exhibit together with our Russian partners, Russian Fish Company, on a newly designed 110m2 stand. Please come and visit us in Pavilion 3 to discuss your mackerel requirements if you attend the show.

You can contact us at sales@shetlandcatch.com if you have an interest in herring or mackerel and wish to discuss your requirements with a member of our sales team.

Maiden Landing From MV Voyager

Shetland Catch was pleased to welcome skipper Arnold Mcculloch and his splendid new vessel, MV Voyager, on Friday 20th August with their maiden landing of herring. The herring were averaging 300gms, which is perfect for producing whole round herring for Africa and skinless fillets and flaps for European markets. We hope to see Arnold and the Voyager again in the near future!

Shetland Catch matches MV Voyager's donation
The skipper and crew of MV Voyager made a generous donation of £1000 to the RNMDSF (Fishermen's Mission) when they made their maiden landing of herring to Shetland Catch. We are only too happy to match their donation to this worthwhile cause, as it is the charity we support through our sponsorship of the annual "Mission Cup" golf tournament in Whalsay.

Shetland Catch sponsors Relay for Life
Shetland Catch was proud to sponsor Cancer Research UK's Relay for Life, held at the Clickimin Centre on the 29th May. The Shetland event was the UK's largest with more than 1900 participants, which has raised over £160,000 so far. We congratulate everybody who helped or participated towards this worthwhile cause!

R.N.M.D.S.F. Golf Tournament
Shetland Catch was delighted to continue its sponsorship of the Royal National Mission for Deep Sea Fishermen Golf Tournament, which was held in Whalsay at the end of May. 80 golfers took part and the event raised £4000. The team from the MV Tranquility won the cup this year. Shetland Catch has sponsored this event for the past 14 years, during which time more than £70,000 has been raised for the RNMDSF.

Shetland Catch sponsors The Tall Ships Races 2011 Lerwick.
Shetland Catch is proud to be a Host Port Sponsor when The Tall Ships Races call to Lerwick, between the 21-24 July 2011. This event will provide us with an excellent opportunity to invite customers & suppliers to sample Shetland hospitality at its best. It is hoped around 70 tall ships of various sizes will participate in 2011, which will add a lot of colour to Lerwick Harbour for 4 days.
